Reviews for Tempted In London, 1820, Christian Delaford, aged 34, walked into a well-attended ball, with a specific purpose—he had mere months to marry—by midnight of his 35th birthday, or the 8th Duke of Haverton position would pass to a distant relative. Christian had spent the past ten years in China, but his father had proven, upon his death, to still manipulate Christian’s life. Christian, of course, had no choice, even though he had plenty of money; his distant cousin (who would become Duke) would bankrupt the position and all its assets which would leave their tenants homeless and broke. Christian had spotted a beautiful woman whom he did not know but had discussed with his former friend, Stephen—it seemed they both were interested in Lady Elizabeth Grayson—especially after the encounter she had in the center of the ballroom with her former brother-in-law, Edward Huntley, Lord Stanhope, whom Elizabeth was convinced had murdered his deceased wife, Charlotte, Elizabeth’s identical twin. What a confrontation! Christian was sure that he was going to marry her, but he was unaware that she planned to never marry. Her goal was to help abused women, like Charlotte, who needed refuge for their safety. The first paragraph of this book intrigued me; the last line found me wishing for more! The confrontation I have addressed was only ONE of many; there was never a slow part of the manuscript and I never lost interest. While both Christian and Elizabeth had unique, individual problems, together those troubles multiplied! Cover to cover showed a unique writing style by Ms. Rita Thedford; she created a regency plot consumed by members of the ton, but she added a myriad of slants which gave the book completely exclusive perspectives. Her characters were wonderfully written; it was hard to decide who had more problems and who needed the other most. I absolutely loved this book! I recommend it highly. I just have one question-- Could there possibly be a sequel to tell the story of Stephen and An Li?
This is one of the best regency romances I have read in a long time. The novel is full of intriguing and well-developed characters. The secondary characters are also fleshed out and interesting. I was impressed by the heroine's focus on helping abused woman and did not expected to find this topic in a historical romance. While intense it is also an extremely hot, enticing romance that is quite riveting in fact. I will certainly look for more books by this author.
In Tempted, Ms. Thedford brilliantly recreates the nineteenth century world of the ton and peoples it with interesting, three dimensional characters. Her heroine is the stuff of dreams, beautiful, spirited, kind, and daring, and she finds a worthy partner in Christian Delaford. Christian is a magnificent combination of gentleman, adventurer, pirate, and lover. And he’s drop dead gorgeous too. The sparks between Christian and Elizabeth almost singe the reader as they consummate their passion in this sensual, sexy read. Ms. Thedford’s villains are the stuff of nightmares, not dreams, as they spin their nefarious webs around Christian and Elizabeth. A strong cast of secondary characters enhances the read. I found myself cheering for them even though in my heart I thought they were doomed. The plot moves quickly and holds the reader’s interest as Ms. Thedford brings her story to a thrilling, satisfying climax. I’d recommend Tempted to anyone who’s looking for a sensual, attention grabbing story. -Elaine Cantrell The Welcome Inn , Wings ePress TEMPTED, by Rita Thedford, is a historical romance novel set in England in 1819. Elizabeth Grayson is a lovely heroine. She is convinced her brother-in-law killed her twin sister, Charolette. With the help of her handmaiden, she begins to avenge her sister’s death by seeking retribution from abusive husbands, lovers, and masters around the countryside. She is strong-minded and has decided that all men are bad, and she will never fall in love. That is until she meets Christian Delaford. Christian’s father was a scoundrel and a cruel father. At his death Christian learns he must marry before midnight of his 35th birthday or all of the Delaford fortunes will go to Christian’s evil cousin Park Mansfield. Elizabeth becomes known as the Raven Rogue, and terrorizes the countryside robbing and wounding abusive men. Christian must woo and wed the uncooperative Elizabeth before his birthday. In spite of themselves they fall in love. Rita Thedford has written a romance that will singe the pages as you read them. As for those sex scenes, I have only one word: WHEW! But just when you think this is just another romance novel, the plot twists and turns, and what unfolds is an entertaining mystery that ends in a tension filled climax. I can recommend TEMPTED wholeheartedly to everyone. Kowanda Stroud author of KILLING TIME w/a Sharon Woods, ICEY MAY, TOO SMALL FOR A GATE, and THE BEST OF THE WORST TIMES.
